Monarch Host Plants

Monarch butterflies are a specialist species when it comes to the plants they consume as caterpillars, relying solely on the milkweeds in the Asclepias genus. Both Rose and Common Milkweed are Monarch favorites and also have some of the most beautiful flowers among the milkweeds. And they also draw in an amazingly diverse set of insects for their nectar. These are powerhouse native plants for the garden and for building local habitat.
